TRANSFORMING THE WORLD WITH GOD'S GRACE AND LOVE

WE'RE SO GLAD YOU FOUND US!

Sunrise Ministries exists to transform the world with God's grace and love. We do this by building authentic relationships, caring for those in need, using our lives for others, listening for God's voice, and sharing our stories. We believe that in humbling ourselves and living this way, God can make a difference in the world.

We invite you to join us for worship Sunday mornings at 10am at the Hudsonville Christian Middle School. There you will find engaging worship, biblical teachings, community & fellowship, and a vibrant children's ministry for infants through 5th grade. Whether you're a lifelong follower of Christ or have never set foot in a church, Sunrise is a place where all are welcome.

CURRENT SERIES

overcomer: taking control of toxic emotions

OCTOBER 15 2017

This week we continue our new teaching series, Overcomer: Taking Control of Toxic Emotions. Over the next four weeks, we'll be taking a Biblical look at how to deal with and understand our emotional tendencies. This week, Pastor Bob talks with us about the pervasive dangers of apathy.

We live in a "meh" generation.

We struggle with apathy and caring for others and loving them like Christ. Much like the good Samaritan, this comes out in thoughts and actions like these: it's not my problem; it's not worth the risk; it's not worth the effort; I'm too busy. Apathy keeps us centered on us; it's rooted in selfishness. Overcoming apathy is rooted in developing the heart and passion of Christ. It's asking the Spirit for a righteous burden to carry, something that keeps us from focusing on ourselves.

Revelation 3:14-20; Psalm 68:35; Ephesians 2:10; Ecclesiastes 10:18; Romans 9:1-4

OCTOBER 8 2017

This week we begin our new teaching series, Overcomer: Taking Control of Toxic Emotions. Over the next four weeks, we'll be taking a Biblical look at how to deal with and understand our emotional tendencies. We kick things off with church elder, Ryan Murray, and a look at comparing ourselves to others.

Comparing is a dangerous emotion. It destroys your blessing because when you compare, it can make you feel like you don't have enough. Or it might make you prideful if you compare and find you have more than others. Either way, the truth about comparison is it's rooted in what we use to define our worth, and using an Earthly "standard" to define such things can only lead to the sorts of dark emotions related to comparison: jealousy, envy, anger, pride. When we remember that our standard as Christians is Christ, we can remember our true worth.

Today's Bible references can be found at:
2 Corinthians 10:12; Luke 10:38-42; John 21:15-23; Luke 15:11-32; Genesis 4; Genesis 30; 2 Corinthians 10:5; Psalm 139; Proverbs 12:3; Proverbs 27:2
